    Why Choose the 6112?

The 6112 is designed for drivers who want more than a basic replacement shock or spacer leveling kit. Its larger piston and increased oil capacity provide improved damping control, while the included coil springs and adjustable spring seat allow the front suspension to be tuned for the vehicle and desired stance.

    Key Benefits

    • Adjustable Front Ride Height – Multiple snap-ring positions allow the front lift to be set for the vehicle and desired stance.
    • Large 60mm Monotube Design – Increased piston size and oil capacity improve damping control and heat management.
    • Matched Coil Springs – Application-specific replacement springs are included instead of reusing the factory coils.
    • Vehicle-Specific Valving – Each application is tuned for predictable handling, ride quality, and control.
    • On- and Off-Road Performance – Well-suited to daily driving, overlanding, rough roads, and moderate trail use.
    • Pre-Assembled Options from Jack-it – Available for many popular applications to simplify installation.

    Pre-Assembled Kits from Jack-it

    Skip the Coil Spring Assembly

Standard 6112 kits require assembly before installation. The coil spring must be compressed and mounted onto the shock using a spring compressor. Because of the amount of stored energy involved, a commercial-grade coil spring compressor and an experienced technician are recommended.

To make the process easier, Jack-it offers many popular applications fully pre-assembled.

    Our assembled packages include:

    • New top hat mounts
    • New mounting hardware
    • Bilstein shocks and matched coil springs
    • Assembly by experienced Jack-it suspension technicians
    • Lift height preset to the option selected when ordering

The completed assemblies arrive ready to install without requiring you or your installer to compress the new springs or disassemble the factory struts.

Jack-it has specialized in truck and SUV suspension since 1994, and our technicians assemble each package according to the components and ride-height setting selected for that application.

Please note: Selecting the pre-assembled option typically adds approximately 2 to 7 business days to order processing time.

    Adjustable Front Ride Height

Grooves machined into the shock body allow the snap ring and spring seat to be positioned at different heights. Available settings vary by vehicle, but many applications provide adjustment from near-stock height to approximately 2 to 2.5 inches of front lift.

This adjustability can be used to:

    • Reduce factory rake
    • Level the front of the vehicle with the rear
    • Increase front tire clearance
    • Fine-tune overall stance
    • Compensate for certain front-end accessories or additional weight

Drivers primarily interested in correcting factory rake may also want to browse our Leveling Kits, while customers seeking substantially more ride height and tire clearance should consider a complete Suspension Lift Kit.

Always use the ride-height settings specified for your application, as available lift positions vary by vehicle.

    60mm Monotube Construction

    Larger Shock Body

The 6112 uses a 60mm shock body and piston, providing greater damping surface area and oil capacity than a conventional factory-size replacement shock.

The additional oil volume helps manage heat during repeated suspension movement, while the larger piston allows for more precise suspension control on rough roads and trails.

    High-Pressure Gas Monotube Design

Bilstein separates the shock oil from the high-pressure nitrogen gas, helping reduce aeration and damping fade during demanding use.

    Benefits include:

    • Consistent damping
    • Improved heat dissipation
    • Responsive suspension control
    • Reduced performance fade

    Zinc-Plated Shock Body

A durable zinc-plated finish helps protect the shock body against corrosion and exposure to road and trail conditions.

    Digressive Valving & Ride Control

Bilstein uses application-specific digressive valving to balance everyday comfort with improved body and suspension control.

Digressive damping provides firm initial control to help manage braking, cornering, body movement, and steering response while still allowing the suspension to absorb larger bumps and rough terrain.

The result is designed to provide:

    • Improved body control
    • More predictable handling
    • Reduced excessive suspension movement
    • Better control on washboard roads and trails
    • Comfortable everyday drivability

    Bilstein 6112 vs. Bilstein 5100

Both the Bilstein 5100 and 6112 are popular upgrades for trucks and SUVs, but they serve slightly different customers.

    Feature Bilstein 5100 Bilstein 6112
Front Ride Height Adjustment Select applications Most applications
Front Coil Springs Reuses factory springs Matched springs included
Shock Body Smaller diameter Large 60mm design
    Oil Capacity Standard Increased
Best For Value-focused daily driving & moderate off-road use Increased suspension performance & more demanding use
Jack-it Pre-Assembled Select packages Many popular packages

The Bilstein 5100 Adjustable Height Shocks are an excellent option for drivers seeking improved ride quality and adjustable front height at a lower price point.

The 6112 steps up to a substantially larger shock body and includes matched replacement springs, making it better suited to customers seeking a more complete front suspension upgrade.

Drivers who want to explore other Bilstein options can also browse our Bilstein Truck Shocks.

Who Is This Suspension Upgrade Best For?

The 6112 is an excellent choice for:

    • Daily Drivers – Improved body control and handling without sacrificing everyday drivability.
    • Overland Builds – Additional front clearance and increased damping capability work well for vehicles carrying camping equipment, bumpers, or other accessories.
    • Weekend Trail Vehicles – The large-body monotube design provides increased control on washboard roads, rough terrain, and moderate trails.
    • Lifted & Leveled Trucks – Adjustable front ride height makes it easier to achieve the desired stance while improving suspension performance.
    • Drivers Moving Beyond Basic Spacers – Unlike a spacer that primarily changes ride height, this system replaces major suspension components to improve both height and damping performance.

Depending on the vehicle and selected lift height, Upper Control Arms may also be worth considering to improve alignment range, suspension travel, or clearance. They are not required for every application.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Do 6112 coilovers come assembled?

Yes, if assembling the kit yourself. Compressing the coil springs requires considerable force, so a commercial-grade compressor and experienced technician are recommended. Choosing a Jack-it pre-assembled package eliminates this step.

Do I need a spring compressor to assemble?

Yes. Assembly requires compressing the coil springs, and a commercial-grade spring compressor is recommended because of the amount of spring tension involved. Customers purchasing a Jack-it pre-assembled kit do not need to perform this step.

How much front lift can I get?

Lift height varies by application and snap-ring position. Many vehicles offer settings ranging from near-stock height to approximately 2 to 2.5 inches of front lift, however this can vary depending on model or sub-model.

What rear shocks should I use?

For drivers looking to complete the suspension setup, Bilstein 5160 remote reservoir rear shocks are an excellent match for the 6112 front coilovers. The added oil capacity and improved heat dissipation of the 5160 make them especially well suited to overlanding, rough roads, towing, and more demanding off-road use.

Are these good for daily driving?

Yes. They are popular with drivers who want improved handling and suspension control without giving up comfortable everyday road manners.

Are they suitable for off-road use?

Yes. The large 60mm piston, increased oil capacity, monotube construction, and application-specific valving make the 6112 well-suited to overlanding, rough roads, trails, and moderate off-road driving.

    Are new coil springs included?

Yes. Unlike adjustable-height 5100 front shocks that typically reuse the factory coil springs, the 6112 package includes application-specific replacement coil springs.
