The B8 8100 Series is Bilstein's most premium offering for trucks and SUVs serious about off-roading and performance. While largely limited to Jeep and Toyota models, it is an upgrade worth seriously considering for those owners.
Top Features of the B8 8100 Shocks
These shocks use a gas monotube design with a speed-sensitive digressive valve setting tuned specifically for each model. This gives dampening and performance that are custom-designed for your vehicle. The shock components are built from aerospace-quality aluminum and use a large 60mm ID shock body for increased oil capacity and superior heat control.
Large 60mm ID Shock Body
Billet Aluminum Components
EVO Grey or Polished Aluminum Finish (depending on model)
Piggyback or Remote Reservoirs to increase oil capacity
60mm Piston for better comfort and control
Monotube Gas Design
Great off-road performance and on-road ride quality
Types of 8100 Shocks
Standard Reservoir: All 8100 Series shocks include either a piggyback reservoir (mounted to the shock body) or a remote reservoir (connected with a hose). The reservoirs increase the oil storage capacity to provide greater heat dissipation and eliminate fading when the terrain gets rough.
ByPass: The ByPass versions of the B8 8100 Shocks are position-sensitive dampers. They utilize a dual tube externally adjustable bypass design that features incremental flow bypass adjusters (knobs) that allow for finite and incremental changes for rebound and compression (soft to firm ride). This bypass design allows for a more comfortable ride on the highway and high-performance dampening when off-roading.
DSA: - The latest upgrade to the Bilstein 8100 shocks is the use of DSA (Dual Speed Adjustment) knobs mounted to the reservoirs. While similar to a bypass shock, these shocks will allow for adjustment of the compression speed (low and high). This great feature gives you control of ride quality at various speeds.
Are these shocks right for me?
The 8100 Series is designed for serious off-roaders who need added performance when leaving the pavement. The bypass versions cost over $2000, so budget can be a concern. If they fit your budget, you will get an excellent shock that will not disappoint you when off-roading or on the highway. They are rebuildable, which is a huge bonus. You do not need to purchase a new set if any internal components fail.
If your vehicle has front coilovers, the 8100 perfectly matches the Bilstein 8112 ZoneControl Coilovers. The internal components and external design are very similar and designed to be paired together.
